I had a really nice comment a few days ago on one of my blog posts. Unfortunately I had to delete it. Why, you ask, since I said it was so nice? Well the comment praised my blog post and then went on to try and get me to visit a site that sells drugs. I don’t need to have someone visit my blog just to spam me. I would have preferred just a regular comment without the added visit this site for discount drugs. The way this blog is set up – the comments cannot be edited prior to approval so I could not edit the comment to remove the website or the last sentence to edit the drug pushing.
Hubby’s diet
•July 11, 2008 • 1 CommentWell the verdict is in, he is on a diabetic diet. Even though he is officially not diabetic yet the doctor and dietitian thought it was best to start him on a low carbohydrate diet ASAP. The good news is that he doesn’t have to take any diet pills or other types of medication. He just has to modify his diet slightly.
I was looking over the information that the dietitian gave him and I was surprised at what he was able to eat and what he was to stay away from. Certain fruits are now off limits because of their high carb levels. Apparently his weight gain is from his body not being able to convert carbs into energy efficiently enough and it turns to fat. Carbohydrates are an energy food and some people cannot convert that type of food into energy, instead it makes them tired or sleepy. I am so glad that he got professional medical help with his weight problem and I recommend that to anyone that wants to lose weight.
Losing weight
•July 10, 2008 • Leave a CommentMy husband has an appointment this morning with a dietitian. His doctor told him that he is pre-diabetic and will need to drastically lose weight to prevent him from becoming diabetic. I usually go to most of his doctor’s appointments with him but this one he is going to have to do on his own. I have warned him for years about his weight and I always avoid bringing junk food into the house. Unfortunately that has not stopped him from going out to the corner store and buying bags of chips, sodas and ice cream.
Since we got married 20 years ago, he has gone from a slim 180 lb, 6 foot individual to a very fat 300+lb man. It took the last 6 years to put on most of that weight.
I am now waiting to find out if the dietitian will prescribe weight loss pills or what kind of diet he will have to follow. He will be having a tough time with it I know. This man will make midnight raids on the refrigerator for sandwiches. He denies doing that but I see the evidence the next morning in the kitchen.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will be able to get the weight off and keep it off.
A niece had a surprise
•June 9, 2008 • Leave a CommentOne of my many nieces had a startling surprise over the weekend – twins! I had thought that doctors were able to tell if twins were expected or not nowadays. Apparently the doctor made a mistake and didn’t know. Normally parents are pleasantly surprised when little bundles of joy arrive, but not this time. The young couple was not expecting an extra mouth to feed, house and raise so soon in their marriage.
Most of the items that they had already for the one baby they were expecting was given to them. I had donated a baby stroller that was about 10 years old that a former neighbor left with me when she moved. Now she girl will need a double baby stroller for the twins. So far all her aunts and uncles (me included) have been emailed each other and trying to get together with a plan to get her the items she will need for the twins. We have been talking about the baby stroller along with the car seat and the crib.
Her husband has been going nuts trying to figure out how to afford all the extra diapers and other much needed items. Poor guy only has a just above minimum wage job and works all kinds of overtime to make ends meet. I told him not to worry, almost all of us has been in that type of situation at one time in our lives and we all survive it.
Blogging fills a need
•June 6, 2008 • Leave a CommentTo me, my blogging fills a deep seating need. Whenever I see something or someone do or say something really, really stupid, blogging gives me that mental image of slapping that someone up the side of the head and saying WTF??! How many times have you wanted to have your say in what is happening in the world? Blogging gives me a voice. It may not change the world all at once but it is good therapy. Who knows, maybe one day I will make a difference. One can only hope.
